Story
Rock Farm Productions was started by husband and wife team, Danny Leonard and Lorena Hernández Leonard. In collaboration with Oscar-nominated animator Bill Plympton, Rock Farms Productions produced its first animated short, Demi's Panic.
Demi’s Panic will have its world premiere at the Oscar-qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival, taking place at the iconic TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California on September 24, 2021.
The film is an official selection at film festivals nationally and internationally, including Oscar-qualifying SPARK Animation, Woodstock Film Festival, World Festival of Animated Film in Varna, Bulgaria, and others which will be announced soon. Additionally, the film will be screening at Indie-AniFest in Seoul, Korea and Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Tokyo, Japan.
About Demi’s Panic
In an anxiety-inducing sequence of events, Demi's Panic follows the story of Demi, a young Latina professional living in NYC, whose prophetic dreams become all too real when an invisible danger causes catastrophic loss. She turns to her boyfriend Omar for support, but a safe harbor is hard to find when the world is being buffeted by an unprecedented storm.
Writer / Producer Danny Leonard explains he wrote Demi's Panic "after my own family's struggles during the early days of the pandemic, including our youngest daughter getting sick and the terror of not knowing if it was Covid or not because they wouldn't test her. It was then that I wondered what it would be like to be an omniscient observer, being able to see the virus as it circulated around us. Once I had the idea, I felt urged to nurture the story, in part as a way to process everything happening, and because of the encouragement I received from friends in the arts and entertainment industry. Thanks to a friend's introduction, I was put in touch with Bill Plympton who felt compelled enough by the script that he said ‘let’s make it!’ And, as newcomers to filmmaking, this was the best decision we could have made.”
